Frost PC Case Mod

Frost PC

The frost PC was one of the first modded PC's made for showcasing at events whilst running Respawn Gaming LTD
The frost PC was to be the first modded case put on display at events and exhibitions with Respawn Gaming Ltd.  It had to be something we were proud to put on display and stand out from many of the other mods around there, it had to be cost effective but not look cheap.

The initial concept came from seeing use of frosting spray on water cooling reservoirs to diffuse the colour of the fluid and make it look incredibly chilled. Frosting spray has since become a fantastic tool in diffusing LED's behind acrylic.

The "FROST" lettering went through a few iterations before we decided on the font through votes on social media, the case was then handed over to my contacts at a company called Tailormade who CNC'd the lettering out after I provided the files. The CNC wasn't quite made for the finer details of the font and did cause some burrs around the edges that needed to be filed down before we painted the case.

We used the Thermaltake View 27 case which at the time did not come in a "Snow" edition so the case was all sanded, painted, sanded again, painted some more and sealed with a top coat by hand.

A frosted acrylic sheet was then mounted onto the rear of the cutout lettering and a blue LED strip magnetised to the PSU cover behind it. With the potential to change this kept in mind we only used double sided sticky foam pads to secure the frosted acrylic.
We made custom braided cables in white and blue for use in this mod, and used combs for cable management (We definitely should have got clear ones!) The view 27 Case although not the biggest provided great space for hiding cables and managing them.

We opted for a diluted blue coolant from Thermaltake and frosted the ends of the tubing where they met the fittings for added effect, as well as around the edges of the clear side panel and the reservoir (With a cheeky logo thrown in there too!) We added a UV Reactive additive to the fluid and mounted a blacklight to the top rear of the case so the coolant would glow a bright neon blue in a dark room.
The overall build was a Mid-High end system with a 6th Gen i5 - 16GB of Ram and a 1070 GPU.
The lighting in the exhibition hall took a little away from the UV reactive fluid during the event which we solved by draping guests and the PC under a table cloth if they were interested in seeing it. We had numerous offers to buy the system during the event but wanted to keep ahold of it for future shows. If could do this build again I would have gone for an aquajet cutting process on the side panel and side mounted the GPU with a custom water block (They werent available for that model at the time) and definitely paid the little extra for white RAM. I feel like the G.Skill Trident Royal ram would have fit this mod perfectly.
